Maker Mender Philosophy

We use ONLY industry-approved methods.

Time does not matter because perfection is okay.

We don't mind if it takes a little while to do.

We want these to last for decades and centuries to follow.

About Me

I grew up on a farm that included a two-acre public cemetery. This imbued me with an awareness of the way our society remembers those who have gone before us. This remembrance was a part of daily existence; the gravel road to town passed by several country cemeteries. Some of my family were volunteer maintainers, mowing and raking as needed to keep vegetation in check.

After leaving the farm, I obtained degrees in Geology and Chemistry. I worked mostly in the field, studying the weathering of materials. About nine years ago, I started the practice of visiting and praying for the dead during the first eight days of November (the Octave of All Saints). Catholic teachings began to change me, grounding me in the fact that we all have an end, and many of us will be placed under a marker to signify our life.

Looking at my area, I saw many markers in need of restoration. Some had weathered beyond legibility, while others were broken or fallen over. I decided to use my background to help the community preserve its heritage and collective memory. My love of stone, knowledge of chemistry, and desire to work with my hands outdoors made this a natural fit. I am ecstatic to be doing this work; it truly fulfills me.

With my background in Genealogy, I help people develop a comprehensive view of their history. This includes choosing particular varieties of techniques and inscriptions, understanding what symbols and words mean, and learning about the person through their memorial.
